Wildtierpraxis Maltzan
Clinic for Zoo Animals and Wildlife
Dr. med. vet. Julia Gräfin Maltzan
In the Name of Animal Welfare
I am fortunate enough to be a veterinarian in a place and at a time where I can dedicate myself entirely to wildlife: their protection, the diversity of their species, their habitats, and our environment.
Dr. J Graefin Maltzan: Over 30 Years of Expertise
Passionate about animals from a young age, my journey led me through studies in Italy to my veterinary degree at LMU Munich. I attained my doctorate with a thesis on remote injection systems. Moreover, I trained as a specialist for zoo animals and wildlife as well as for species conservation. For over 14 years, I worked as head veterinarian at Munich’s Tierpark Hellabrunn. Afer that, I became an independent practitioner and advisor, primarily in wildlife parks, and supported various NGOs, often overseas. Through work or through training, I seized on every opportunity to share my experience and knowledge – mostly in Africa, but also in Asia. One of my specialties is remote injection techniques (blowpipes), which I take to be an indispensable tool for wildlife management. (For more on this, see Projects below.)
Specialist Veterinarian for Zoo Animals and Wildlife
The Wildtierpraxis Maltzan offers a wide range of services, including examinations in our clinic, outpatient treatments, and mobile services elsewhere. In this, I draw on comprehensive expertise in managing animal collections in zoos and wildlife parks. A particular focus of my work is remote immobilization for the safe examination and handling of shy or defensive animals.
Specialist Veterinarian for Wildlife and Species Conservation
As a specialist veterinarian for wildlife and species conservation, I am committed to protecting endangered species around the globe. My priority is to support local professionals by sharing my experience from numerous projects abroad, from Kazakh plains to Iraqi mountains. In my view, knowledge transfers and joint initiatives are crucial to ensuring the survival of endangered animals. My work aims to connect science and practice to preserve the biodiversity of our planet.
